Tour de Drugs

Not the most clever headline, but appropriate nonetheless. The Tour de France has become a drug fueled race across the French countryside. Many European papers are even calling for this years race to be canceled. I don't really care since there are no Americans in the running and I didn't really care that much about the race anyway, but it's a shame that one of the great sporting events in the world has been tainted so badly.

I have a theory: French political leaders slip performance enhancing drugs into their Tour de France athletes to help boost ratings for an otherwise over-looked world sporting event. Ok maybe it is a little bit fabricated, but let's look at two supporting details that you lightly touched on: 1) You don't care because their are no Americans and 2) You don't really care anyway. Though similar in concept, they are very different. 1st Being the sports nation that we are, not to mention the largest viewing audience of sports world-wide, one can only assume that the Tour de France viewing ratings have plummeted through the floor. The only way to get Americans to pay attention (besides have us actually win) is to fascinate us with controversy (in this case cheating). The 2nd: you don't really care anyway. If only cycling was a real sport that Americans could feel better about themselves winning, I might actually pay attention. However, cycling is only for people without driver licenses, old people, and hippie free loaders (you know the type). Anyway, that is all I have to say!
